Taking a tour through the Barstow & Locan area today revealed lots of growth and new beginnings for people who going to be living in the new neighborhoods. Construction crews were busy working on the the Pasaro community of Benchmark Homes as well as the Wilson built new homes. There were also earth movers leveling an area of what is to be DeYoung homes. Bonnadelle has signs in the area pointing further east. Development has mostly gone North and East in the Fresno area for some time now and this would be an example of eastern expansions.

Being a supporter of Fresno State athletics, I finally was able to tour the Fresno State Benchmark home model which was decked out with bulldog decorations and red t-shirts and products with the bulldog logo. I finally found Victory E.'s dog house (sarcasm)! Of the 24 sales in the past six months between Shaw and Bullard and Locan & De Wolf, 16 of them were new or under construction. These homes together averaged slightly under $142 per sq. ft. Looking at the new home sales by themselves, those sold for about $144 per sq. ft.

Some other homes and home builders in the area are Mccaffrey built and D.R. Horton built. The east side of these neighborhoods is primarily Ag fields with some gentlemen farms sprinkled in the mix.

A couple neat features of the Benchmark homes is the double sided fireplace in the backyard and the Nest programmable energy-efficient thermostat. Articles I have read suggest that we are about 5 years away from having smart homes. Homes where you can control door locks, thermostats and more through one device such as a smart phone. Google recently purchased the Nest home technology and these Benchmark homes are setting the trends in the "smart home" industry.
